In the movie Fight Club, there is a scene where Tyler Durden and the narrator walk into a convenience store with a gun in hand. There Tyler confronts a clerk - Raymond K Hessel. He puts a gun to Raymond’s head and threatens to kill him and then asks him what he wanted to be. Raymond says he wanted to be a veterinarian.
Tyler takes his license and gives him six weeks to be on his way to being a veterinarian and then Tyler says (according to me) the most beautiful piece of dialogue in a movie littered with great dialogues,
“Tomorrow will be the most beautiful day of Raymond K. Hessell's life. His breakfast will taste better than any meal he has ever eaten.”
Let us look into something that we are all happy to consider but very few of us fight for. The topic of dreams.
"Dream is not the thing you see in sleep but is that thing that doesn't let you sleep." - APJ Abdul Kalam.
Almost every human being alive has some dream for the future. They envision a way the world has to be. It is almost impossible to do that we are all built to dream. But these dreams meet a very abrupt end when they meet another word - reality.
To understand how to dream we must first understand where dreams start. A dream usually starts with a need and a yearning to fill that need. Even when the person does not acknowledge it, dreams are driven by what the world or the universe needs. It cannot be made real if it is not something that people want. To make it real it should be feasible with the current capability of technology.
James Cameroon had the idea for Avatar immediately after he finished Titanic but the tech to make it happen just did not exist. You cannot fulfil the need without considering the limitations of current and the possibilities of the near future. Understand your dream figure out whether it is something that is needed by doing a study, then figure out what you will need to make it a come true and only then commit to making it a reality. Always be ready to learn from your mistake but never stop fighting for your dream. It is easy to be happy and content with what is there but if all of us can were happy and content none of us would be.
